Dragon Crest is a live action role playing game. This type of game is a combination of fantasy tabletop role playing games from companies such as TSR or Palladium, and live events such as medieval fairs and SCA events. The result is a fantasy game with monsters and magic, mock combat and adventure.
Fighting is by means of Boffer swords, bows, pole arms, rocks and daggers. These are made of PVC pipe, open and closed cell foam and Gray Tape. While inexpensive to construct, Boffer Weapons are probably one of the finest toys ever made. Head, hands (in most cases) and the groin are illegal targets, but other than that, any part of your opponent you can reach is fair game. No other physical contact is allowed for safety reasons. The Boffer weapon is the tool of choice for Warriors, Battle Casters, Rogues, Bards and Rangers.
Battle Casters, Mages, Rogues and Bards easily engage in combat by throwing spell packets. Spell packets are also easy to assemble (1 tablespoon of birdseed tied into a 6-inch square of white fabric). The spell caster utters the proper incantation (for example, "By the burning of my blood, I curse you with Death!") and throws the packet at his/her target. Assuming the spell hits the target, or his clothing, and the spell is not mis-incanted, the target receives the benefit or damage of the spell. This eliminates messy, game delaying die rolling, and has the added bonus of being great fun!
